Downtown’s 4th of July Celebration!

As revolutions break out all around the world citizens of Fullerton take a day to reflect on the revolution that brought us here.

This Independence Day comes at a time when we can see the forces that drive people to rebel erupting in many nations where last year we would have thought it impossible. We can see a modern version of our Revolution in Libya and Egypt. But something is missing.

In fact it is good time to ask ourselves why the American Revolution, the first in a wave of Western revolutions, was the most successful. A quick survey of the French, Russian, and Chinese revolutions reveal a quick descent into authoritarian oppression. So it is no surprise that the Middle East is having such difficulty finding their footing after a peaceful revolution when viewed in context.

What made our different? What happened when Thomas Jefferson smudged out the word “subjects” and replaced it with “citizens” (as was discovered just before the 4th last year using new techniques)?

Whatever happened on that day 235 years ago, that is what we celebrate on this 4th. Be sure to check out the downtown fireworks.

The event is happening at FUHS Stadium at the corner of Lemon and Berkeley. Admission is free and parking is free. Fireworks start at 9:00 and last for 20 minutes. Live music will be performed by Deke Dickerson
