| Local Employer Punished by FullertonianAdmin | The media has recently publicized CSUF professor Adrian R. Fleissig’s report showing a small uptick in the local economy. The report shows growth in five out of seven economic indicators. Unfortunately, regional unemployment was one of the two items that brought the indicator down. While this report is being released, and economists are scratching their heads about why employment is still on a downward trend, a local employer is being viciously hounded for guess what: employing people. | | Fullertonian Metro by FullertonianAdmin |
There is a new web service that’s free (gratis) and as easy as reading twitters. For those who still don’t see the advantages of text messaging this may finally enlighten that dark corner of your mind and bring you into the present millennium.
The OC Crime Map lists short descriptions of recent police activity. In many ways it is like the old Police Radio Scanners that cycle through all frequencies and stop when there is a sound. This new service can be read at a glance and shows the locations on a map.
You can find it in the new Metro Section of the Fullertonian.com on the left side under the list of candidates.

Awards for First, Second, and Third Place* will be announced at this public screening. Winning entries MUST have a representative present at the event in order to win a prize. So plan to attend, and bring your fans! The deadline to vote online is coming up! | | Letters To The Editor – Overnight Parking by alex.stouffer | We own a business in Fullerton. We own a home in Fullerton. So, you would think we love this city. We do not. Why? BECAUSE WE CANNOT PARK OVERNIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR OWN HOME! From 2AM till 6 AM, we have gotten so many tickets at 30 bucks a clip that it is sickening. The tickets are currently $31.50. Our own home?! WTF? There seems to us to be no logical reason that we, and people all over the city, cannot park in front of our own homes other than it to be a source of revenue for the city. | | The Museum of Teaching and Learning Goes Back to the 40s by alex.stouffer | Fullerton,CA-August 24, 2010: It’s time for the Museum of Teaching and Learning’s annual social to raise funds for the Junior Docents program and its upcoming exhibit that will open at the Old Orange County Courthouse. Junior docents are high school volunteers trained to lead interactive tours of "A Class Action" for 4th graders and encourage learning through before and after exhibit visits. They develop skills in leadership, time management, and public speaking while at the same time making a significant contribution to the community. The next traveling exhibit is “A Class Action: Mendez v. Westminster and the Grassroots Struggle for School Desegregation.” The fight to end California school segregation began with Orange County’s Mendez vs. Westminster case in 1947 so this year’s theme is the “Fabulous Forties”. Costumes or business attire are recommended. | | TEDxFullerton Announces Their Line Up by alex.stouffer | FULLERTON, CA – August 27, 2010 – “Creative” communities are our future! TEDxFullerton begins the conversation about what is means to be a “creative” community. What are the “ideas worth spreading in Orange County” which will achieve this goal?

Fire broke out early this morning at the Hong Kong Buffett (306 N Raymond). The fire department and ambulance were called to the seen some time after 4:00 AM.
Other businesses in the building were the Salvation Army and Automated Office. The building is gutted and the parking lot area smells like a barbeque.
It is not known yet what started the fire.
| | Democrats of NOC by FullertonianAdmin | While investigating candidates stands on local politics I came across a newsletter from the Democrats of North Orange County. In the midst of a failing economy their solution seems to be to protect cashier’s jobs. They are discussing banning self-checkout stands. Now I have nothing against cashiers even though I’ve dated a couple, and I hate the self-checkout happy voice. When she says, “An attendant has been notified!” what she really means is, “Security has been notified!”. | | CSUF Keeps Their Prestige by alex.stouffer | Cal State Fullerton has retained its top 10 position within U.S. News and World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges” annual ranking. The university is listed 10th among “Top Public Schools: Regional Universities (West).” Fullerton shares the ranking with Humboldt State University. The categories highlights public institutions that award bachelors and master’s degrees, but few doctorates, if any. In the edition’s broader “Regional Universities (West)” category, incorporating both public and private institutions, Cal State Fullerton ranks 37th among 126 campuses in the West selected for the list.Fullerton shares the 37th spot with Dominican University of California and Humboldt State University. The university also is included the magazine’s list of institutions with the most transfer students and most campus commuters.
| | OC Flyers – Local Baseball Has A Following by alex.stouffer | A baseball game can cost some dough if we’re talking about professional teams. Sure, you can go get some top deck tickets at Dodger’s Stadium for $15, or upper view seats at an Angels game for the same price. However, even if you wanted to be the cheapest skate around there’s always the hassle of traffic, high concession prices, and having to use binoculars like it’s a night at the opera. These people don’t even know that they can go get a great view of a local team for only six bucks. It’s a great price considering some baseball officials have said that the players for teams like the OC Flyers play at the MLB’s Double-A level.
