Stand Up For Your Rights – Voter Freedom in CA by alex.stouffer

Voter Records - Fullerton - 2010

I always figured the numbers in Fullerton had to lean heavily in favor of the Republicans, but the impression is deceiving. What does it really mean to be a Democrat or a Republican anyway? It’s a little hard to place a whole population, with a wide array of individual beliefs, into two categories. I hear Republicans say they take a fiscally conservative stance, but then some of them will subsidize commerce. I also hear Democrats talk about how well they can regulate. Yet, if you combined all of the third party members they would still be dwarfed any one of the ‘Big Two’. The last time a new party was elected the Whigs were disbanded, and Lincoln got shot.

Interestingly, the third biggest category of registered voters belongs to ‘Decline To State” voters. Many people don’t pick this, but because California’s primary elections are ajar, Decline to State voters are allowed to vote in any party’s primary. Although, they are still only allowed to vote once of course. What’s more democratic than choosing to vote in any primary you wish? I encourage people to not only vote, but to do it as a Decline to State voter. You get to keep what ever you believe as a voter, but still get the right to influence elections. Win, Win.

A New Dining Experience by FullertonianAdmin
Picasa Content

The downtown area has a new flavor from the far away land of Lebanon. Some have said that

Fullerton, because of it’s particular location, has a Mediterranean climate. The newly opened Les

Amies would then be the perfect accompaniment to our perfect weather.

I tried the patio seating on a perfect sunlit Tuesday. The shawerma (marinated steak sandwich, $3.25) is a well made version of an ancient food. It’s light, yet satisfying. The herbs and vegetables are delicately balanced with the meat to give if a flavorful and maybe slightly tangy flavor. It’s great patio food.

Les Amies menu is simple. At first I

Yesterday morning I was listening to a book-on-tape recounting the formation of the Great Northern Railroad. I prefer books on tape, often, because my eyes are already busy. Contrary to what many people say, books on tape contain the most important part of books; the words. Sure, they are not bound in leather, don’t have that old library smell, can’t easily be flipped through, or easily fill otherwise bare places on shelves, but fuck all that shit if it’s a choice between that and the words. Give me the words now: I will play with the leather later.

I acquired the habit when I drove for work for hundreds of miles a day. In those

California High-Speed Rail: Vision of the Future, or Utopian Make-Work Juggernaut to Buy Off the Upper Middle-Class? by FullertonianAdmin

Utopian image of high-speed rail project.

California may not be able to complete a high-speed rail system, set to begin construction in 2012, because of poor planning and a lack of funding, the state auditor warned Thursday.

Auditor Elaine Howle reported that the authority overseeing the rail system could very likely fall billions of dollars short of what it needs to complete the project, even though California voters approved borrowing billions of dollars to help pay for it.

Is spending $14 billion on a luxury liner of a train, in the midst of the worst financial crisis California has ever seen really such a good idea?

Should we really trust the accounting wizards in Sacramento who say this is economically feasible and will help the state in the long run?

Isn’t today’s mess the result of their long-run view?
