Easy Publish with Microsoft Windows Live Writer

The Fullertonian News Articles now works with Windows Live Writer (WLW).

WLW allows you to compose articles on your computer instead of a web page. You can set it to auto-save every 5 minutes. This is one of the biggest improvements over posting a whole article directly to a page because a website glitch won't wipe out your whole document. That will just never happen with WLW.

But there are many other nice features in WLW that allows you to auto-insert Wikipedia links, insert screen captures of web pages, insert flickr pictures that you can look up on the fly, easily specify the summary text and many more.

To set up WLW to work with The Fullertonian you just need to add a new blog to WLW.

  1. Click on the blogs menu at the top and select Add New Blog.
  2. When it asks you for the Blog Service you use select Other blog service.
  3. It will ask you for the website address and you type in http://www.thefullertonian.com and your username and password.
  4. Then it will ask you for the type of weblog and here we select Metaweblog API.
  5. And here is the tirckiest part. Remote posting URL: http://www.thefullertonian.com/metapost.ashx?key=news articles. The portion "news articles" has a space in it.
  6. Around this point it asks you which blog you want to use. Pick "Add Article"
  7. It will then ask you if you want to use the theme from the site. Don't do it. The theme from the site won't get downloaded completely so it is a waist of time.
At this point you are done connecting.

So tell your friends. Post an article. Do a food review. A movie review. A band you saw in Fullerton. A car accident. Pictures of your neighbors having sex near the open window behind the bush. Anything interesting. This is like iReport for Fullerton.

The latest project from All the Art for All the Kids (www.alltheartsforallthekids.org) will  be unwrapped tomorrow but the Fullertonian has the inside scoop.

The media has recently publicized CSUF professor Adrian R. Fleissig’s report showing a small uptick in the local economy. The report shows growth in five out of seven economic indicators. Unfortunately, regional unemployment was one of the two items that brought the indicator down.

While this report is being released, and economists are scratching their heads about why employment is still on a downward trend, a local employer is being viciously hounded for guess what: employing people.
